Fashions On The Field

FASHIONS ON THE FIELD
From the early days, Thoroughbred Park was and still is
Canberra’s Fashion Mecca.

The Fashions on the Field competition first started in Melbourne over 40 years ago to entice more women to the racecourse, and now is a pinnacle event for every feature race meeting at Thoroughbred Park.  Racing and fashion have always gone hand-in-hand and the 104.7 Melbourne Cup race day, Kennards Hire Canberra Cup and AAMI Black Opal Stakes day is the place to be seen. In the 2008/2009 season Thoroughbred Park provides an exciting opportunity to take the MYER Fashions on the Field competition to even greater heights, far surpassing the prizes offered to competitors in the past.

This year the event will hold competitions at all feature race meetings at Thoroughbred Park which includes the 104.7 Melbourne Cup Race meeting, Kennards Hire Canberra Cup and the 2009 AAMI Black Opal Stakes for men, women and couples. The Childrens section has been added to Preview Day on 22 February 2009.  Prizes at the Kennards Hire Canberra Cup and the AAMI Black Opal will include cash as well as Myer gift cards.

RELEASE THE INNER SHOW PONY!

Each year, local, regional and interstate racegoers enter Fashions On the Field, and several previous winners have continued on to win and be placed in other competitions nationally. The event receives much interest from the public and media with local and regional exposure.

Classic Ladies Race wear is the feature fashion event of every major race meeting.

Classic Mens Race wear will return as a category for the 2008/2009 season.

Classic Couples Race wear allows the men and their partners to compete for the prize pool.

Childrens Race wear will be the major competition at the 2009 Preview Day 22 February 2009.

All ladies, providing they are wearing a hat or fascinator, and gentlemen attending Thoroughbred Park’s race meetings, are eligible to enter the Classic catagories. Roaming Fashion Officials will also be inviting fashionably dressed race goers to enter the competition in all catagories. Winners from Classic Mens Race wear and Classic Ladies Race wear competitions are ineligible to enter Classic Couples Race wear.

Entrants should register between the times advised at the Fashion Stage, unless otherwise approached by our expert Fashion on the Field official scouts.

Entrants will be given a numbered card for the preliminary judging, which will take place in the same area. Entrants will be asked to stand on stage with each entrant doing a catwalk while the judges make their decision.  A minimum of two heats for the Classic Ladies Racewear will take place and finalists from each heat will be called to take part in the final judging process.

The judges will be briefed weeks before the event on the strict crtieria in place for all 4 catagories.

There will be the Myer Fashion on the Field overall winner in the Classic Ladies Racewear, Classic Mens Racewear and Classic Couples Racewear for each feature race meeting.
